Welcome to the Mid-Continent Section
|
The Mid-Continent Section of SPE was founded on December 28, 1917. It predated, by two years, the establishment of the American Petroleum Institute (API). Today, the Mid-Continent Section has over 700 members located in Tulsa, Oklahoma USA and surrounding area. Our diverse membership comes from a mix of medium and small businesses including major oil & gas companies, independent producers, drilling contractors, well services, equipment suppliers, gas transmission, universities, government agencies, and consultants. The
Mid-Continent Section maintains a tradition as one of the most active of more
than 140 SPE sections in the world. One of its more unique activities is
an annual series of 18 twice monthly luncheons with guest speakers, started
in 1965, and continued through the present for over 40 years. Another unique activity is the origination and sponsorship of the biennial SPE/DOE Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) Symposium. The IOR started in 1969 as the Oil Recovery Symposium, later known as the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Symposium. Since 1980, the meetings have been jointly sponsored with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The IOR Symposium attracts hundreds of members and exhibitors to the Plenary Session, Technical Sessions, Short Courses, and Exhibition. We are very proud of the professional organization and great volunteer effort of our IOR Committee. Technology is our main interest, but Mid-Continent SPE members enjoy annual sporting events, too. Our Fall Roundup Scramble at Meadow Brook draws hundreds of golfers. Our Sporting Clays Tournament also is popular with the members. We sponsor Continuing Education short courses, typically 4 per year. If you are a member of SPE International
and work or reside in the Mid-Continent region, then you are automatically a member
of the Mid-Continent Section. For many of our members, Section activities greatly
enhance the value of SPE membership. This is reflected in the tremendous energy
of the Mid-Continent Section--which is 100% voluntary and dedicated to the enrichment
of practicing petroleum professionals. |

Mid-Continent Section SPE Young Professionals
|
Since its formation, the YP group has held several networking socials at various establishments in Tulsa. These socials are now held regularly at 5:30pm on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Attendees encompass all areas of the local industry TU chapter students, service companies, and operators. At the end of March, the YPs organized SPEs involvement in the annual Engineering Challenge held at Tulsa Technology Center, Riverside campus. We had the opportunity to show middle and high school students the interesting aspects and benefits of pursuing an education and career in the oil and gas industry through SPE handouts, informational CDs, a casing fishing activity, and various drilling-related items for display. In June 2007, we are planning a cook-out for students who have internships with Tulsa area companies. This will provide an opportunity for them to meet and interact with other interns pursuing their same path and also to interact with young professionals currently in the oil and gas industry.
We look forward to continued growth of this newly formed group and are excited about the opportunities it holds for young professionals in Tulsas oil and gas industry. If you are a young professional and would like to be included in our event announcements, please e-mail Hap Pinkerton, hap.pinkerton@halliburton.com. |
